A works council is a participation body of a company. Employees can participate in the day-to-day affairs of the business by means of a works council.

When there are 50 or more employees in a company, a works council must be set up.

There are several rights that accrue to a works council. Important rights are the right to be consulted on economic, organisational and financial matters and on the appointment and dismissal of a director under the articles of association, and the right of consent in respect of arrangements in the field of social policies.
