Expats

Expats can be employed abroad in different ways. The expat may, for example, enter into the service of the foreign company or be seconded abroad while maintaining his current employment. The manner that is selected and the way in which agreements are documented have consequences for the law that is applicable to the employment relationship.
What law is applicable, or has been declared applicable, to the employment relationship can have major consequences for the way in which and the conditions under which the employment agreement can be terminated.
In the event of being sent abroad as an expat, it may be necessary to arrange a work permit. Also sometimes it is unclear in what country the employees are insured under social insurance schemes, or in what country tax must be paid.
